The Japanese Friendship Garden (JFG) is proud to announce that Cherry Blossom Week (formerly known as Cherry Blossom Festival) returns to welcome the spring season! Beautiful cherry blossoms have opened at the Japanese Friendship Garden! Now totaling a full 11 acres, one can meditate in the Zen garden or relax by the koi pond in the upper garden.

Guests can marvel at the beauty of the iconic cherry blossoms as well as the koi pond and waterfall at San Diego’s Japanese Friendship Garden.

The Japanese Friendship Garden of San Diego presents the 11th Annual Cherry Blossom Festival next month, March 5 and 6. The celebration will continue to combine both cultural education with family fun and will offer various special daily programs. The Japanese cherry trees in Balboa Park are beginning to really blossom! In 1977, after hearing the plans by many San Diegans to reestablish a Japanese garden, Yokohama gave San Diego 100 cherry blossom trees that now blossom at the Wild Animal Park.

The Cherry Blossom Festival at the Japanese Friendship Garden in San Diego is an annual celebration of spring and Japanese culture. Because a big storm is on its way into Southern California, I got my weekend walk in this morning. This Japanese Garden inside Balboa Park is huge as it sits on a 12-acre plot.

Head to the Japanese Friendship Garden in Balboa Park March 10th-12th to enjoy live music, cultural dance, and the appreciation of the cherry blossom bloom.

The cherry blossoms are opening in bunches at the Japanese Friendship Garden in early March. You can explore the various displays of greenery, enjoy a class, such as yoga, mediate in the stone garden, watch the koi in 2 different ponds, tour a special exhibit in the lower garden or one in the same building with a view of the meditation garden or go to a sake talk or lecture. This morning I walked through the canyon at the Japanese Friendship Garden and took in the indescribable, almost heavenly beauty. The Japanese Friendship Garden (JFG) is bringing back it’s annual Cherry Blossom Week, now on its 15th year!

I didn’t want to venture too far and get caught in the rain, so I decided to head up to Balboa Park to check out the cherry blossoms at the Japanese Friendship Garden! Enjoy the peace, serenity and beauty of the Japanese Friendship Garden, a place for all seasons and all ages.
The gate was near the entrance to the 11 acres (4.5 ha) set aside in Balboa Park, the eventual construction and restoration site of a Japanese garden. Balboa Park visitor gazes down into the Japanese Friendship Garden canyon expansion where a grove of flowering cherry trees awaits. Now it ints eleventh year, this iconic tradition is a great way to enjoy the beautiful cherry blossoms at the park.

The Japanese Garden is an example of a chisen style garden, in which a pond or lake occupies the most significant portion of the garden.
